Free Assistance on Tax Preparation via VITA

VITA volunteers help people who qualify file their tax returns

For the 5th year, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is helping area residents and families who make less than $67,000 prepare and file their tax returns. This IRS program is free, and no appointments are needed.

VITA volunteers are available at Westerly Education Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00-8:00 p.m. from January 28 to April 15, 2025. All VITA volunteers must take and pass tax law training that meets or exceeds IRS standards. The training includes maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of all taxpayer information. In addition to requiring volunteers to certify their knowledge of the tax laws, the IRS requires a quality review check for every return prepared at a VITA site prior to filing.
